Fall 2025
Assignment policy
-
Please, try to submit your work before the deadline. An assignment that is
not submitted before the deadline is considered missing. A zero grade is
issued for every missing assignment.
-
You are encouraged to contact your instructor by email, but assignments should
only be submitted using moodle or on paper1, according to the specific instructions of the assignment.
You are responsible to read the text of the assignment and in case you don't understand the requirements to ask your instructor for clarifications.
-
You can contact your instructor about a submission, but do not sent the assignment by email
unless you are specifically asked to do so.
NO Exceptions.
-
If, for some reason, you are unable to submit your work before the deadline,
you must contact your instructor before the deadline,
not after the deadline.
- Requesting an extension just few hours
before the deadline may be ignored.
- Requesting an extension at least 24h before the deadline may have a chance to be approved.
-
In case your request for an extension is approved the new deadline will be specified.
-
Any attempt to obtain an extension, by contacting your instructor after
the deadline, is ignored.
-
Any attempt to submit assignments after the deadline, without having
the permission of your instructor to do so,
is ignored.
-
NEVER (try to) submit assignments by email, mainly if you are late!
If you do, your message will be deleted!
-
An extension or late assignment submission may be granted, at the
solely discretion of the instructor.
-
In case an assignment is submitted late, a penalty is associated
with the mark. Penalty is not negotiable and the instructor
decides its value. Submitting late is your choice.
The penalty may be higher than the value of the assignment;
in this case a zero grade is issued for the assignment.
-
In most cases, submitting the assignment in time is part of the grade,
which means that, if you send a wrong file or you
are unable to submit the assignment for one
of the following reasons
-
Using a browser that cannot communicate well with the submission server
-
Using an operating system that cannot communicate well with the submission server
-
Working on a computer that hasn't got appropriate software
installed or properly configured
-
Using a computer infected by viruses or other malicious software
-
Using a computer with unreliable hardware (this include the failure of the HDD)
it is your choice.
Your instructor is not responsible for your choice and your assignment is
marked only for the work submitted.
-
For some assignments, specific instructions or changes may be announced in class.
It is your responsibility to attend classes2 and be aware
of these changes or instructions.
-
Please, do not forget to consult the general policies of UPEI.
Please keep, a copy of your submission, just to be on the safe side.
Advice: do not wait until the very last moment to submit your assignment,
since the time on your computer may not be synchronized with the time on the UPEI moodle server.
Once the sumbission server closes the submissions links, they will not be reopened.
After final mark is submitted, assignment marks may be updated only in very special cases.
I give you enough time to review your assignments' marks and send comments,
before the final mark is computed and submitted to the Registrar's Office.
Update for storm closures
- In case UPEI is closed for the day (because of bad weather or other unforseen circumstances) the rules are as follows.
- If there is no power outage, all electronic submissions will have the same due date
(nothing changes).
- If there is a power outage, all electronic submissions will be delayed and you will be notified
via moodle about the new due date.
- Paper submissions will be delayed until the university reopens3.
You may submit it in advance, or the next day1.
1
Paper submissions can be transformed to scanned PDFs submitted on moodle as well.
2
My courses are in-person only, so attending classes is strongly recommended.
It also means that you are encouraged to read, listen and view the material posted on moodle and ask questions,
if any, at any time.
You are also encouraged to contact your instructor by email should you have any specific questions/comments/concerns/issues.
You are also encouraged to attend office hours any time you you need, instead of using AI bots or search engines like ChatGPT, google, or other unreliable sources that can missled you, waste your time, or both.
Marks
Wrong marks isued by markers can overridden by your instructor who will have the ultimate say.
This means that, at any time you may see some marks changed as a result of a faulty marking process.
I give the solutions of all assignments in class, so expect changes to your mark if your solutions are
not compatible with these solutions.
Of course, wrong marking should never happen, but we must keep the integrity of the learning process.
